Our tours are a feast for your mind as well as your taste buds. Our guides are experts on Amsterdam’s history and culture, so you’ll come away with a rich understanding of the city. You’ll learn how Dutch food and history are intertwined, giving you a unique and delicious perspective on Amsterdam.
For private tours, we can often customize the start and end points to suit your plans. We may also be able to arrange pick-up and drop-off services for your convenience.
Our tours run rain or shine! The only exception is a “code orange” weather warning from the Dutch weather institute (KNMI). In that rare case, we’ll try to reschedule your tour. If that’s not possible, you’ll receive a full refund. On rainy days, our food stops are all indoors, but we still recommend dressing for the weather. An umbrella and waterproof jacket are always a good idea!
The Grand Dutch Food & History Tour involves walking at a steady pace and may include some stairs at our tasting locations. If you have any concerns, please get in touch. We are more than happy to create a custom private tour for guests with limited mobility. Contact us to discuss your needs, and we’ll find the perfect solution.
Yes, a selection of standard drinks (like beer, soft drinks, tea, and coffee) is included in the tour price. For some private tours, you can upgrade to include cocktails, liqueurs, or champagne. Feel free to ask us for more details.
No need to bring anything specific! We recommend comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. In the summer, a hat and sunscreen are a good idea. In the winter, be sure to bundle up with a warm coat and scarf.
For private and custom tours, you can cancel free of charge up to 7 days (168 hours) before the tour begins. This excludes any non-refundable costs we’ve incurred with third-party vendors (like boat rentals or restaurant reservations).
If you need to reschedule, you can do so for free if it’s more than 7 days before the tour. If you reschedule less than 7 days in advance, a fee of at least 15% of the ticket price per person will apply, plus any costs from our suppliers. To make any changes to your booking, please contact us directly. For a complete overview, you can find our terms and conditions here.
Comfort Food With a Long Memory Some dishes survive because they’re clever; others because they’re comforting. Wentelteefjes, the Dutch take on French toast, survive because they’re both; a golden, cinnamon-scented way to turn old bread into something irresistible. What began as a practical trick in ancient kitchens has since travelled the world, adopting new names, […]
When Amsterdam Slips Into Its December Glow Amsterdam doesn’t need snow to feel like the holidays, it only takes a cold mist over the canals, warm lights glowing in the windows, and the smell of roasted nuts floating between the bridges. December wraps the city in a soft kind of magic: shopfronts glimmer, cafés feel […]
When the Rain begins to fall Rain in Amsterdam has a rhythm of its own. It softens the city’s edges, makes the canals shimmer, and sends locals drifting into cafés as if it’s all part of the plan. When the skies turn grey, Amsterdam doesn’t hide, it glows. This is when the city smells of […]

The Dutch word “Rosse Buurt” literally means “red neighborhood,” a name born from the warm glow of lanterns that marked entertainment houses centuries ago. Long before Instagram tours and bachelor parties, De Wallen was where sailors stumbled ashore after […]
The Untranslatable Word Every culture has its magic words, but the Dutch may have the most stubborn one of all: gezelligheid. Ask for a translation and you’ll get shrugs, grins, and half-baked attempts like “cozy” or “friendly.” But gezelligheid is more than that. It’s warmth, connection, and the feeling that life is best when shared. […]
If Amsterdam had a square that could paint its own self-portrait, it would be the Rembrandtplein. By day, you’ll hear coffee cups clink, bikes whizz past, and pigeons audition for a table at your café. By night, neon lights hum, basslines shake the cobblestones, and Rembrandt himself keeps a calm eye on the chaos, as […]
